How it all began

I know most of you have already heard most of this information but I wanted to keep it in my blog mostly for journal reasons. I am going to start with Monday July 23rd the day it all began and our lives turned completely upside down.

Davin woke up and wouldn't even come out of his bedroom because he said that his leg hurt and he wouldn't put any weight on it. I called the doctor and they said to bring him in because he had been sick over the weekend and they wanted to make sure there wasn't an infection making it hard for him to walk. When we went to the doctor she was feeling around trying to figure out why his leg was hurting and she felt a hard bump in his stomach below his belly button. She suggested it might be constipation and that he might have a hard ball of poo right there but she wanted to check so we went downstairs and did an xray. She came back and showed me the picture and said that there was something in the middle that was pushing everything else to the side. She wanted to radiologist to look at it and then she would let me know.

I went home and we waited a long time and at 4:30 Dr. Bean called us back and said that the radiologist didn't think it was poo and they wanted to do an ultrasound to try and figure out what it is. She called Riverton hospital and their radiology dept. was closed and so she called Primary Childrens. They were open so we raced out the door because she set up an apt. for 5:00. I was stressing because it was rush hour and I had to go across the valley in 30 min. Chad had called and told them that we were coming and would be a little late, when we got there we were only 20 min late. The tech that helped us was named Jeremy and he was super nice to the boys. Davin was wearing his R2D2 shirt and Jeremy pulled out his phone to show him a picture of the pumpkin that he carved last year that was R2D2. It was even painted and everything. He helped get Liam some crackers when he was starting to get upset and didn't want to wait anymore. What they found from the ultrasound was that it wasn't liquid filled, so basically it wasn't a cyst. It was a hard mass and it has blood vessels going into it. Not a good sign!

The doctor at radiology and Dr. Bean our pediatrician talked and Dr. Bean told me that he probably has cancer. She wanted to make a few phone calls and figure out what we needed to do next. (Davin is her first patient with cancer) They ended up admitting us just to find out from the oncologist that we can't really do anything until Wed. because of the holiday on Tues. We decide to go home because Davin isn't in any pain except he was walking with a little limp. The plan is to do a CT scan and then bloodwork at the oncology clinic on Wed.

So to sum it all up Mon. was a really crazy, but I'm glad that we were able to find the tumor and start taking care of it before something really bad happened.
